Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance
To provide each student with an individualised employment provision that focuses on skill development, improved employability, and positive transition destinations, underpinned by a constant focus on quality of life and the Preparation for Adulthood curriculum model.
At Pivot Academies we teach our students the skills and attitudes that will enable them to become independent, in preparation for adult life. We provide a broad and diverse core curriculum which gives our students the opportunity to reach their full potential. Alongside this we offer optional accredited vocational programmes, a personalised support programme and wider skills & knowledge building opportunities to enhance learning and experience. Our Careers education provides a way of developing knowledge, understanding and experience of the opportunities available when our students make their journey into adulthood.
The curriculum at Pivot Kirklees supports all students to take part in activities and learning appropriate to them and the pathway they are on whilst with us. All students have timetabled lessons Careers (as part of PSHCE and Form Time activities), included in our PSHCE Golden Threads, Preparation for Adulthood and/ or accredited Employability qualifications depending on their Curriculum Pathway. Our subject lessons offer real life contexts to develop an understanding of job roles and transferable skills. They also highlight linked careers, promote aspirational people and celebrate the real world applications of their subject. In addition, we offer accredited work related courses to enhance outcomes and develop essential skills. We ensure that all students have access to a wide range of vocational experiences and accreditation in a variety of settings. These settings include the school, further education providers, the local and wider community and places of work.
They also take part in our wider programme such as Careers Week activities, HE/FE trips and visits, Mock Interviews and Work Experience. Students are able to contribute to a variety of enterprise based charitable events over the course of the year. Our programme aims to develop the knowledge and skills needed for improved decision making about the future, in a safe and nurturing environment.
CEIAG (Careers, Education Information, Advice and Guidance) is an essential part of the support we offer at the Pivot Academies, supporting students to make the right choices. Students have access to Careers Hubs and are signposted to online portals which contain information advice. All our students have regular impartial, independent advice and guidance at key transitional times, access to current information on local opportunities and personalised support for issues that may affect their well-being and continuation of learning. Effective transitional support can help prepare young people for all aspects of their journey into adulthood and help them to make informed choices about their future.
Our CEIAG curriculum and support follows the Gatsby Benchmarks and we have linked all our opportunities to them in this document.
