Many of our students face challenges when it comes to mainstream education. These challenges often derive from a need for more resources, understanding and time, leaving many students and parents stranded in the complicated landscape of education.
At Pivot, when we enrol a student, we aim to understand their unique needs. Whether it’s more support, nurturing, or learning strategies, we recognize that each student is an individual with vastly different needs from their peers. This personalized approach allows us to provide the right support, creating a nurturing learning environment that fosters each student’s potential.
Due to the nature of Pivot, we know that it is essential to address our resources across all sites constantly. Many of the adjustments that are put in place are done on an individual basis. Our most recent focus has been our Pivot Leeds site, undergoing a complete refurbishment tailored to our students. Pivot Leeds is home to our one-of-a-kind LINKS facility; LINKS stands for Learning, Inclusion, Nurture, Knowledge, and Social Mobility and supports students with educational-based anxiety. This facility was set up with students in mind, and all decisions made were governed by the needs of our students, leading to the creation of a calm environment using practical lighting as opposed to bright ceiling lights and soft seating as opposed to hard plastic seating often found in educational institutions. Facilities such as this can be found across all of our buildings and are successful in fostering a work environment free from the overstimulation and challenges found in a mainstream school.
Although our approach is unconventional, because of our students, we take extra steps to make not only ‘reasonable adjustments’ but ‘bespoke adjustments’ unique to the individual. Pivot has supported many students over the years by adopting a nurturing approach, and even as we progress, we will never stray from our ethos. Children do deserve better, and for that reason, we will continue to provide the best.
