In a vibrant celebration of creativity and teamwork, learners at Kirklees Pivot Academy came together with Yorkshire Youth and Music to produce a memorable end-of-term celebration that resonated with rhythm, energy and pride.
Yorkshire Youth & Music have been delivering music activities at PIVOT 6 since 2023, thanks to support with funding from Creative Minds as part of the Kirklees Year of Music. In the past year, this project has expanded to involve learners from other provisions in the Kirklees Academy as part of their commitment to enriching the curriculum through the arts. Learners were invited to visit Yorkshire Youth & Music’s studio in Huddersfield to participate in a series of workshops led by professional musicians, where they explored song writing, music production and performance techniques. These sessions not only nurtured musical talent but also built confidence, communication skills and a strong sense of collaboration.
Over several weeks, the learners worked closely with Music Leaders to compose original pieces that reflected their experiences, aspirations and the school’s values. The process was inclusive and learner-led, with students contributing lyrics and melodies.
The culmination of this creative journey was a “Pivot Fest” held on the 15th July for learners and staff to enjoy. The learners also used their creative skills to create the poster used to advertise the event. For many of the learners, this was a highlight of the school year – a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when young people are given the tools and trust to express themselves.
