We’re welcoming local authority colleagues, commissioners, school leaders, social workers and families to our POP Wakefield Hub, for a look inside a model that’s reaching young people with special educational needs in a way traditional provision can’t always manage.

“These young people can achieve — they just need the right support, at the right time, delivered the right way,” says Ollie Roberts, POP Site Lead.

POP is part of Pivot’s 2030 Charter commitment to Places: building hubs where communities need them, not only where buildings already exist.

A new learning hub in Wakefield mark the beginning of a wider regional network across Yorkshire and the Humber. Each will reflect the calm, relationship-centred approach of every Pivot school, rooted in the local community it serves.

The 2030 ambition: every learner within ten miles of a Pivot space that feels like home.
Not expansion for its own sake. A recognition that geography should never be the reason a child doesn't get the support they need.

Strengthening our workforce. Building a leadership pipeline across teaching, support and management. Expanding trauma-informed practice. Maintaining staff retention above 90%.
These are the things you do when you understand that specialist education is, at root, a human craft. The young people who arrive at Pivot don't need a system. They need a teacher who knows them, a mentor who notices what others miss, a specialist practitioner who answers the phone.

Six years ago Pivot had 49 staff. Today we have over 170. The People commitment is how we keep what makes Pivot work as we grow.

1 in 5 children in Wakefield have a special educat

1 in 5 children in Wakefield have a special educational need. Nationally, fewer than half get their support plan on time. This is the gap the Pivot Outreach Programme was built to close.

Across Wakefield, 3,213 pupils hold an Education, Health and Care Plan. Nationally, that number has more than doubled since 2016 — and fewer than half of EHCPs are issued within the statutory 20-week deadline. 7% take more than a year.

For the young people waiting in that gap, the consequences are real: lost education, rising anxiety, growing isolation. Local authorities face mounting pressure. Families run out of options.

Pivot's Outreach Programme — POP — was established to step into that gap directly. Not as an extension of our school provision, but as something designed for the learners who need a different route altogether.

An exciting chapter for Pivot Group is about to be

An exciting chapter for Pivot Group is about to begin.

Following our successful ISI Material Change Inspection at Pivot Academy Kirklees, we have received the recommendation to expand our Kirklees provision — increasing our potential capacity up to 250 learners over time and extending our age range to include children from Year 1.

For the young people in and around Huddersfield who need specialist SEND education, and for the families who have been waiting for the right place, this matters enormously.

The ISI inspection confirmed that our curriculum, safeguarding, premises, staffing and leadership are all ready for this next step. And in many ways, this is exactly what our Pivot 2030 Charter is about, being where we are needed, growing our provision, and making sure more young people can access the specialist support they deserve.

The foundations are in place. The Charter sets the direction. Now we build.
