"I cried when I first visited. I could not believe such a place existed."

Dawn's daughter had struggled with anxiety, OCD and attendance since Year 4. Mainstream had become something to dread, for the child and the whole family. Pivot was not their first choice.

Then they walked through the door.

Now her daughter attends full time, happy and wanting to be there. The change has been, in Dawn's words, "phenomenal."

Specialist education does not just support children. It holds whole families together. That's what we are here for.

Not a reaction to the SEND White Paper. A response grounded in years running specialist provision, understanding what the system looks like from the inside.

For 10 years, we have worked with young people the mainstream system could not reach. Children who arrived carrying the weight of being treated as a problem, not a person. Who, with the right environment and the right people around them, went on to achieve things nobody expected.

The White Paper makes commitments. Some are the right ones.

Meet James. 🎨❤️

James is one of our brilliant Pivot learners — and he’s just been nominated for the Yorkshire Choice Awards 2026 in the Local Fundraiser of the Year AND Community Arts categories.

James designs his own cards and sells them for charity. Last Christmas, he raised £1,572 for Solving Kids Cancer. The inspiration behind it? His childhood friend who was ill, and his Grandma’s experience with cancer. He has also raised money for ADHD charities, because he knows first-hand what that support means.

And how did Pivot help? Simple! His teachers bought his Christmas cards, because that is what good people do.

🎨 Creativity as a vehicle for confidence and skill development 🎨

Last term, our LINKS4U learners collaborated on an art project exploring identity, aspiration and personal growth.

What began as a creative exercise evolved into a structured, skills-based learning experience. Learners developed literacy through artist statements, maths through measurement and layout planning, and strengthened teamwork and problem-solving throughout the process.

The final piece represents more than creativity. It reflects resilience, aspiration and a strong sense of belonging.

Projects like this demonstrate how alternative provision can integrate academic development with confidence-building and personal expression.
